Last week, the White House published a Holocaust Remembrance Day statement. In it, they carefully avoided any mention of Jews. Here’s the full text:

“It is with a heavy heart and somber mind that we remember and honor the victims, survivors, heroes of the Holocaust. It is impossible to fully fathom the depravity and horror inflicted on innocent people by Nazi terror.

“Yet, we know that in the darkest hours of humanity, light shines the brightest.‎ As we remember those who died, we are deeply grateful to those who risked their lives to save the innocent.

In the name of the perished, I pledge to do everything in my power throughout my Presidency, and my life, to ensure that the forces of evil never again defeat the powers of good. Together, we will make love and tolerance prevalent throughout the world.”

People have said Trump isn’t an anti-semite. Maybe not. But his right-wing lunatic advisor (that Bannon guy) sure as hell is. And the White House statement proved it.

One of the common arguments of Holocaust deniers is that the whole thing, even if it happened, wasn’t aimed at Jews. The White House just helped perpetuate that belief. So now, when deniers verbally vomit, they can add Trump’s statement to their list:

  • The Holocaust was actually torture and killing of Germans by the Soviet Army
  • It wasn’t really that bad, and it didn’t target Jews (draw your own conclusions about that little gem)
  • Jews try to say it was all about us because we use that as part of our Zionist Plot To Rule The World. Read my take on that over here.
  • Oh, and hey! Even the White House says it’s not about the Jews!

A Rant

Nothing pisses me off more than the whole “It wasn’t about the Jews” argument.

Jews have been beaten, shot, killed, robbed, and disenfranchised across the world for a thousand years. The world finally recognizes that fact and commemorates the Holocaust as a reminder. In truth, the Holocaust was one event of many that targeted us.

The Nazis justified the Holocaust with all the same arguments now used by deniers: We’re a conspiracy. We’re a shadow government. We’re sinister robbers taking money from others.

So the fact that the White House just gave deniers ammunition is infuriating.

But, this site’s about disproving denier arguments. This one’s easy, so here goes:

If It Wasn’t About The Jews, Why All The Fuss?

The Nazis produced reams of propaganda about the Jews. Mountains of it. Stuff like the film “The Eternal Jew.” That’s a winner. Goebbels hired a director named Fritz Hippler, who clearly blamed the Jews for his last name. Hippler created the image of the Jew as a kind of slovenly leech, moseying around Europe and living off the work of others.

German newspapers cranked out images of Jews ritually murdering babies.

A German named Julius Streicher said:

“Germany will be free when the Jew has been excluded.”

He also said:

“The Jew seeks domination not only among the German people but among all peoples.”

“Let us make a new beginning today so that we can annihilate the Jews.”

He also, by the way, played up the Aryan ideal, in spite of looking like a bald, fat, short version of Mr. Clean:

And, of course, everyone said we were communists. Except communists, who said we were the devil and tried to kill us.

If the Holocaust wasn’t about the Jews, then why did the Nazis spend so much goddamned time trying to demonize us?

In Other News…

In other posts I’ve dug into math, researched air raid shelters and such. I don’t have to do that here. All I have to do is point at the mile-high stack of propaganda the Nazis created to dehumanize the Jews.

Oh, and President Trump? Mention us next year. Or stop arguing you’re not an anti-semite. Your choice.
